The olive tree is the blessed tree of Crete.
In Crete, olive cultivation began in 3500 BC. Numerous Greek and Roman writings refer to the olive tree and its beneficial role. This precious gift of nature is a living legacy, connected to many aspects of our lives.
Olive oil nourishes, preserves, protects, invigorates, heals, inspires. A symbol of peace, wisdom, fertility, prosperity, abundance, luck, victory. The olive tree has played a very significant role in the mythology and religions of many cultures throughout the ages.
Ancient Greek healers used olive oil to heal wounds, treat insomnia, nausea, and cholera. They also used it to moisturize and soften their skin or applied it to their hair to keep it healthy and shiny.
Pruning
The olive bonsai can be easily shaped using the clip & grow method.
We recommend making cuts at least 2-3 pairs below the new shoots. This will ensure there is wood on the branch to promote the growth of new buds.
The olive tree has an excellent ability to regenerate, even after intensive pruning.
Fertilization
Avoid over-fertilization, as it can cause leaf burn.
Lighting
The olive bonsai thrives in natural light.
Filtered to full sunlight is recommended. The foliage will become richer and denser with more natural sunlight.
Temperature
The olive bonsai is particularly resilient and adapts to both warm and cold conditions.
It can grow in different climates, provided it is protected from extreme weather conditions. The minimum temperature should not drop below -8°C. Keep it away from heating elements, cold and warm drafts, as well as windows.
Watering
It requires frequent watering. Three times a week during the summer months, once a week in winter, and definitely twice a week in spring and autumn.
We recommend using a soft sprayer to water the soil. Ensure that the water penetrates not only the surface soil but also the roots, checking for drainage at the bottom of the pot.
Repotting
Repotting is ideally done in spring or autumn, when conditions favor root recovery.
Avoid repotting in winter.
During the process, light pruning of old roots is recommended to encourage new growth.
Depending on the growth rate, repotting is usually done every 2–3 years.
